I am Southern Baptist for many reasons. For one, I know Southern Baptist theology and doctrine and agree with their interpretation of scripture.
Unfortunately, over the past few years we have been losing some ground. When I talk to people who have left the Southern Baptist church and ask them why, the answer they give me is inevitably, "I left for good music". Other denominations are making great music a priority and people are walking away from sound doctrinal preaching in Southern Baptist churches in exchange for music. There is no reason why we can't have great music in our churches. This will allow us to keep the people we already have, see lost people brought in, and bring others back home. Music plays a major role in drawing people o any church. I'd like to help draw them to ours.
There is another important reason for my Southern Baptist Affiliation. We have never been afraid to take a stand on what is right and what is wrong regardless of the criticism that the secular media will pour on us.
What I care about is people, not crowds. Great music with substance, not fluff. I care about The Kingdom, not the music industry. I present Christ, not a famous singer. The Southern Baptist Convention has never cared about winning a popularity contest and neither do I. |
